How to calculate the weight of a rectangular cuboid
To calculate the weight of a rectangular cuboid, you need to know three things:
- The dimensions of the cuboid (length, width, height)
- The material it's made from (to determine density)
- The formula to calculate the weight
Rectangular cuboid weight formula
The formula to calculate the weight of a rectangular cuboid is:
weight = volume × density
Where:
- volume = length × width × height
- density depends on the material (see table below)
Common material densities
Material | Density (kg/m³) |
---|---|
Aluminum | 2,700 |
Concrete | 2,400 |
Steel | 7,850 |
Glass | 2,500 |
Wood (oak) | 700 |
Example calculation
Let's calculate the weight of a steel cuboid with dimensions 20cm × 30cm × 50cm:
- Calculate volume: 20 × 30 × 50 = 30,000 cm³
- Convert to m³: 30,000 cm³ = 0.03 m³
- Multiply by steel density: 0.03 × 7,850 = 235.5 kg
